In fact, one study found that three in four people have experienced toxic workplace culture, with 87% of these respondents saying this had negatively affected their mental health. “Toxic workplaces can lead to stress, anxiety and other harmful mental health issues such as imposter syndrome or total burnout,” explains Victoria McLean, CEO and founder of career consultancy City CV. “This can not only have a hugely negative impact on how you feel in the workplace and your ability to do your job, but also how you feel about yourself, leading you to doubt your own talents,” she adds.
