Let’s talk about interview preparation. If you’ve landed an interview for your dream job, you’ve obviously worked hard to get there and it’s a well-deserved achievement.

Oh, and if it’s not your dream job, then why not? Read our blog, ‘How To Find Your Dream Job’, to help ensure it is.

So, back to the interview preparation. In a competitive job market, the stakes are high, and it all rides on the initial interview. So what should your interview preparation include?

The absolute worst thing you can try to do is ‘wing it’ – this would effectively be self-sabotage, and there are no second chances at first impressions.

At City CV, we have coached for and conducted countless interviews, here are our top tips:

Four Key Steps to interview preparation for your Dream Job

1. Practise, practise, practise

From questions to the handshake, having several dry runs before the big day can help quell your nerves and make for a calmer, more confident approach to the interview itself.

2. Revise a variety of questions

Whether industry specific or more quirky questions, make sure you’ve come up with an answer to an array of different questions so that you’re able to impress on the day.

3. Be punctual and presentable

This should go without saying, but turning up on time or early and being appropriately dressed is the bare minimum. Similarly, practising positive body language will help you come across well.

4. Research the company

We don’t say this lightly, because knowing what year they were founded and who their CEO is isn’t enough. Try clicking on the ‘news’ tab on a Google search to get an insight of any current events happening within the company.
