Applying for a job is no longer a quick and easy process. More often than not, it involves lengthy questionnaires, written exercises, personality tests and multiple interviews – all of which can take months, with no guarantee that your efforts will lead to a new role.
This long and demoralising screening process is leading many to abandon applications halfway through. According to a survey this year by LiveCareer, 57% of job seekers have given up on an application mid-process due to overly complicated or time-consuming requirements.
So why are job applications getting increasingly complex – and if you’re in the middle of one, should you call it quits?
Victoria McLean, CEO and founder of City CV, says the simple reason why applications are so long is the sheer volume of people looking for jobs. At the same time, the number of vacancies in the UK is dropping.
