Being unhappy in a role, whether it’s because of the job itself, the company or a toxic boss, can zap you of energy and motivation, making finding and applying for new positions much more challenging. So should you stay in your existing job and keep your head down – or call it quits?
“This is actually a dilemma I frequently coach people through,” says Victoria McLean, CEO & founder of award-winning career consultancy City CV.
“On the one hand, staying in a job gives you financial stability, which removes one layer of stress, and it can signal to employers that you’re in demand. It also keeps your CV gap-free and gives you more bargaining power when it comes to negotiating salary. Leaving that bubble means financial pressure, loss of leverage, and some risk.”
